- Cash flow: Barring any major surprises, our cash flow situation is fine for the near future (six months out).
- Audit and 990: Marc Kotsonas and Reid Olson from Mahoney Ulbrich Christiansen Russ will be at Monday’s meeting to discuss the audit and 990, and to answer any questions you might have.
Fundraising
- Grants: Good news from the Minnesota State Arts Board!
- MSAB Arts Access: Cantus secured a grant to work with Voices of Hope, a choir of inmates at the Shakopee correctional facility, for approximately five months in the first half of 2019. The project will culminate in a live-streamed concert from Shakopee (pending conditions at the facility) and a Westminster Town Hall Forum “Town Talk.” The grant is $28,372, of which Cantus nets approx. $17,372 (mostly singer/staff time). This was not budgeted.
- MSAB Touring: Cantus also secured a grant to perform in five communities in the northern half of the state – International Falls, Virginia, Grand Marais, Brainerd, and Detroit Lakes – next season (2019-20). In conjunction with these engagements, Cantus will do a master class with three high schools and one community chorus. The grant is $35,239, of which Cantus nets approx. $18,640 (mostly singer/staff time). In addition, Cantus will also receive a total of $9,500 in subsidized booking fees from the five presenters.
- Wenger Foundation and Twin Cities Opera Guild: Proposals submitted.
- Upcoming: MSAB general operating (Jan. 18) and New Music USA (Jan. 31).
- Misc.: Cantus hosted a happy hour on Nov. 16 to thank Tom and Priscilla Northenscold for generously hosting Gregorio Taniguchi this fall.

- Evaluations: Cantus singers and staff completed their 360 reviews.
- 25th anniversary: We secured a hold at the Ordway for Sunday, May 3, 2020 for a gala concert. Vocal Essence has scheduled their biennial gala for May 17, 2020, so we will not risk competing/overlapping events.
