- Program Inserts: $6,735 in FY18 vs. $946 in FY19 ($5,789)
- This difference really has to do with categorization. The individuals who sent their gifts in via an envelope marked “print program” last year were mostly annual donors who could have just as easily sent a gift via an envelope marked “direct mail.”
- GiveMN: $6,205 in FY18 vs. $3,720 in FY19 ($2,485)
- Board Giving: $16,445 in FY18 vs. $10,513 in FY19 ($5,932)
- Program Inserts: $6,735 in FY18 vs. $946 in FY19 ($5,789)
- Further context:
- Economic and political uncertainty combined with last year’s tax bill seems to be driving down charitable giving overall. I’ve included a fundraising blog article on this topic in your board materials.

- Thoughts:
- FY18 ticket totals which we used to estimate this year’s goal looks like it may be more of an outlier than we hoped.
- We benefited from great press for this concert: MPR live performance, WCCO appearance, reviews in StarTrib and Pioneer Press. I also increased the number of postcards by 1,000 this year, sent a second brochure mailing, and incorporated lists traded with MN Orch and VocalEssence in both mailings.
Cantus Idol
- Monday, May 6 at 5:30pm at ARIA
- Brock and I have assembled a smaller Idol committee this year to focus mainly on assembling auction items and other creative aspects of the event – and help boost attendance.
- We’ve already secured several of the major elements of Idol:
- CRAVE catering
- Host: Brian Newhouse will again donate his talents
- Auctioneer: Sarah Knox
- Pianist: Lara Bolton
- Staging/sound/lights/piano rental
- Preorder invites to those who attended last year will be hitting this week. (This is new this year.)
- If you know anyone in your network might be compelled to make a gift of $5,000 or $2,500 before the event as a ‘seed donor’ to our fund-a-need, please talk to me, Joe, or Brock!
