The last month was exiting because we opened our fall/touring show One Giant
Leap, both on the road as well as here at home. Westminster Hall was the opening of
our home show runs and we kicked it off with an incredibly strong performance. We
worked diligently on this program and are very proud of the final product. I have to
give a shout out to our new tenor, Alex Nishibun. He has been a fantastic addition to
the ensemble as he has already brought a very strong singing and artistic director
voice to the table. We always focus particularly hard on our overall sound and blend
in the beginning of each season, especially when we have somebody new, and I am
very excited about how quickly our sound is coming together.
Since opening One Giant Leap we have already jumped right into working on our
Christmas program, where we are bringing back the Three Tales of Christmas
format. The three stories we are telling are The Little Match Girl, The Good Fairy,
and The Nutcracker suites. Last week we began putting together the Little Match
Girl story, and I have to say I am feeling very excited about it! I wasn’t here when the
group put together All Is Calm, but I would imagine the rehearsals feel similarly. We
are setting it up in a way where the story and music flow in and out of each other, as
well as creating different stage pictures with standing positions and different
combinations of small groups. I also want to acknowledge Chris, Alberto, Jake, and
Sam G who all put a lot of time taking the Nutcracker orchestration and arranging
them for 8 voices - this is no small feat! I think it is going to make for a wonderful
show.
